Research Associate b.next Rebuilding biology for engineering

Company: MBC BioLabs
Location: San Francisco
Posted on: November 19, 2024

Job Description:

About Us
b.next is rebuilding biology for engineering. We are making it possible - and easy - to design and build synthetic cells from scratch that address a wide range of challenges ranging from environmental sensing to distributed manufacturing. We believe the most effective way to unlock the potential of synthetic cells is through shared infrastructure and collaborative development, and the core of what we are developing is an open-source platform for cell building (). We are growing our team with people who share our passion for democratizing engineerable biology that just works.
The Position
We are looking for a research associate to help our team develop and test core technologies for building synthetic cells. You will be involved in experimental work spanning cell-free systems engineering, protein purification, DNA design, and liposome preparation, and will help with general lab management and operations. You will gain first-hand experience in growing a synthetic biology company and the opportunity to connect with future-looking biotech groups across industry, academia, and government.
This role will be a great fit for you if you:

  • Care deeply about the people you work with, your impact on the world, and bringing new science & technology to life.
  • Are excellent in most of the following: bacterial culturing, PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, plate reader assays, cell-free expression systems, protein purification, buffer and media preparation, and DNA purification, sequencing, and analysis.
  • Love to learn and thrive in fast-paced environments that value high levels of autonomy, proactivity, and communication to address complex challenges and build new things.
  • Have a BS/MS in a relevant field with 2+ years of wet-lab synthetic biology or molecular biology experience, or equivalent experience.

We are based at MBC Biolabs in San Francisco, a biotech hub and community of some of the world's best scientists, engineers, and operators. We offer competitive salary compensation commensurate with experience, along with medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, a 401(k) plan, and coffee on tap.
Want to join us or learn more? Share your story with us at build@bnext.bio.
